The initial deadline has passed, but late applications are being accepted on piano, trumpet and trombone.
Open to any saxophonists, trumpeters, trombonists, and rhythm section players who are currently enrolled in grades 9-12 and are currently participating in their school's jazz ensemble, or who graduated at the end of this year's fall semester.
Auditions are scheduled in 10-minute slots. Students are asked to perform one prepared jazz piece of their choice (such as a jazz standard, a solo transcription, or a section part from your high school big band) and sight-read a short passage of a big band part. Optional: improvise over a 12-bar blues in F (concert) or a jazz standard.
Drummers: the drum set audition consist of one prepared jazz piece of your choice (such as a jazz standard with or without improvisation, a solo transcription, or a section part from the big band repertoire; a short sight-reading passage of a big band part) and playing a few different jazz grooves (ballad with brushes, medium swing, uptempo swing, Latin)
